for the highest of the Appalachian Highlands located east of
Birmingham. However, average snowfall around Birmingham is only
up to 0.5 in (15 mm), and would occur from early January to
early April. The average yearly rainfall in Birmingham is about
52 in (1330 mm) with March being the wettest and October being
its driest months. |
| The spring and fall months are pleasant but variable, but
cold fronts frequently bring strong to severe thunderstorms
to the South. The fall season also features less rainfall and
fewer storms, lower humidity than the spring, but it also considered
the secondary severe weather season. Birmingham is located on
the heart of a tornado alley known as the Dixie Alley due to
the frequency of tornadoes to Central Alabama. Birmingham is
also prone to tropical storms and hurricanes due to its location
in proximity to the Central Gulf Coast in late summer and fall
months of August to October. However, its location to the Appalachians
gives it a great view of the leaves changing color from late
October to mid-November. |
